School of Undergraduate Studies Te P kaitahi Reo Rumaki, Reo Rua Te Kaupae 1 . Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi was established in 1991 by Te R nanga o Ng ti Awa, opened in 1992 and officially became a W nanga in 1997. Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi aims to be a quality provider of M ori programmes within the tertiary education sector in Aotearoa. Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi delivers programmes that are distinctive in many ways. Transformative approaches to educational achievement are a cornerstone of our broad and unique programme offerings, as we focus on providing an education that will encourage and support community development and growth.
Tertiary study at Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi is supported by a vibrant academic community led by a growing number of M ori PhD qualified staff and an adjunct faculty of national and international experts all committed to developing Awanui rangi as an outstanding institution for M ori scholarship. School of Undergraduate Studies Te P kaitahi Reo Rumaki, Reo Rua Te Kaupae 1 . Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi offers a range of programmes, from certificates to doctorates, and provides educational opportunities to all M ori, New Zealanders and indigenous students. Our aim is to develop Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi as an outstanding site for M ori and indigenous scholarship, and that starts with the excellence of our people. Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi is a W nanga as defined in the Education Act and is registered as such since 1997. huatanga M ori and tikanga M ori responsibilities are unique to W nanga and have an impact on how the W nanga looks feels, operates and behaves.
Strong relationships with our communities of interest in Aotearoa and internationally drive the relevance of our academic programmes, teaching and research. Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi has forged strong connections with a growing number of indigenous communities around the world. Professor Rai said India had embarked on a major reform programme across all levels of education. Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi has established a number of important relationships that enable us to better support the needs of M ori students and communities nationally.
The two institutions are exploring the potential to deliver other programmes in Whangarei and other sites in Te Tai Tokerau. School of Undergraduate Studies Te P kaitahi Reo Rumaki, Reo Rua Te Kaupae 1 . Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi runs Tech P Studio, a highly successful out of school technology programme in Whakat ne. Strategically placed contemporary and traditional carved pieces immediately link the Whare W nanga with the historical significance of the land it stands on, with Ng ti Awa, the tangata whenua of the area, and with the greater hinterland of the rohe of M taatua. School of Undergraduate Studies Te P kaitahi Reo Rumaki, Reo Rua Te Kaupae 1 . Awanui rangi brought us programmes that can be delivered for and with our people, on our marae. Five hap members who began with Level 1 3 foundation studies have completed their final year of the Bachelor of M tauranga M ori degree and are expected to graduate in 2017.
Awanui rangi supported us to develop capacity and capability to deliver the right programmes for our people. Over 100 of us have gone through our marae based education programmes, including Te Pouhono and the Bachelor of M tauranga M ori. Four generations of the wh nau nurture strong ties with their marae, Karangahape, and are involved as teachers or students of marae centred education programmes run by Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi. Karangahape Marae has participated in Te Whare W nanga o Awanui rangi programmes since 2006
